These beautiful shields come from the Bamileke people of Cameroon. Hand-carved out of one piece of wood. The surface features geometric patterns covered in Kaolin (white clay). The back has a Thick wooden handle on the inside for gripping. Traditionally these shields were used as defensive weapons and decorative objects, symbolizing status and wealth. Today these African Shields are a favorite among designers, decorators, and art collectors.
